Update From MOBILE to HNT
Update From MOBILE to HNT

An overview of the changes in mapping rewards from MOBILE tokens to HNT.

Updated yesterday

As of January 29th, 2025, subscribers participating in Discovery Mapping and token-based referral programs will begin earning HNT tokens instead of MOBILE.

This change will not affect your existing balance of MOBILE tokens.

Why the change from MOBILE to HNT?

The Helium Community voted on this change through Helium Improvement Proposal ("HIP") #138 with the belief that the change will help simplify rewards across the network. You can read the full HIP here.

Discovery Mapping is only available for the legacy $5 and $20 plans. It is not included in Zero, Air, or Infinity plans.

As a Helium Mobile subscriber, what does this mean for me?

Moving forward, Discovery Mapping and qualifying referral program rewards will be in HNT, not MOBILE.

HNT will also become the default token for paying for your subscription with crypto, though paying with MOBILE will continue to be supported.

While MOBILE will no longer be earned, you can exchange it for HNT via the Helium Wallet app or other dApps like Jupiter. Those holding MOBILE tokens on a centralized exchange can continue to custody at these venues or decide to swap to HNT depending on your personal preference.

What if I have unclaimed MOBILE tokens?

If you still have some pending rewards that you haven't claimed, that's OK! These will still be claimable in MOBILE, and after you claim you can choose to transfer and convert them to HNT if you'd like.

What can I do with my MOBILE tokens?

You can convert MOBILE tokens to HNT anytime using the swap feature available in the Helium Wallet App. Additionally, token holders have the option to send them to an exchange that supports MOBILE, or transfer them to any other wallet. Other decentralized applications, such as Jupiter, can also be used for swapping tokens.

Why Are We Doing This?

HIP 138 was initiated by the Helium community and approved on November 22, 2024. By consolidating tokens, the authors aim to reduce confusion for new and existing users while increasing the utility of HNT.
