Phone Number Transferring/Porting

Written by Diandra Rodriguez

Bringing your phone number to Helium Mobile? Here’s what you’ll need before getting started.

You can transfer or port your existing phone number from your current carrier to Helium Mobile during activation.

Before you begin

Keep your current service active until your number transfer is complete. If you cancel your account before the transfer finishes, you may lose your phone number. In most cases, your previous carrier account will be canceled automatically once the transfer is successful.

To transfer your number successfully, you’ll need the following information:

  • The phone number you want to transfer

  • Your current carrier account number

  • Your transfer pin. (This is sometimes called a port-out pin or number transfer pin)

  • The billing zip code associated with your account

Finding Your Transfer Pin

Not sure where to find your transfer pin? Use the guide below for help with common carriers:

AT&T

Request a transfer pin by dialing *PORT (#7678)

Verizon

Request a transfer pin by dialing #PORT (#7678)

If your carrier isn't listed, contact their customer support team for assistance locating your account number and transfer pin. Some carriers may also refer to the transfer PIN as a port-Out pin, number transfer pin, or transfer pin.

Prepaid Carriers

If you’re using a prepaid carrier, you may need to contact your provider to obtain your account number. In some cases, your account pin may also be used as your transfer pin.

Google Voice

Before transferring your number, you’ll need to unlock it in your Google Voice account settings. Google may charge a small fee to unlock the number before porting.

Good to know:

  • Account number: Your 10 digit Google Voice number

  • Transfer pin: The pin used to access your Google Voice voicemail.

You can find more information on this in the Google Voice Help FAQ

Having transfer issues?

Received a "Port Failed" error? Double-check that your account number, transfer pin, and billing zip code match the information on file with your current carrier. If you're still unable to complete the transfer, contact Helium Mobile Support through the chatbot in the bottom-right corner of your account.
