Failure to share location may result in reduced speeds and ultimately plan cancellation. If you've received a notice about location sharing requirements and have questions about how to enable it, or believe it was sent in error, please follow the below troubleshooting steps to ensure everything is set up correctly.
Ensure location is set to always allow
Your phone will typically select "allow once" or "allow while using app" by default for location permissions.
You can address this by going to your phone's Settings app and ensuring location settings are set to "Always On" for the Helium Mobile App.
Androids tend to stop background processes (like sending GPS location) after about 3 days to save battery. While the app can not override this, we do recommend closing and reopening the app, as well as setting the app battery usage to Unrestricted. This can be done by going to Settings > type "Helium Mobile" > App battery usage > select "unrestricted".
Turn on health and fitness data
The main benefit of this is that it will save your phone battery life. This can also be enabled in your phone's Settings app.
Make sure you're moving
To save on batter life, your location data is not transmitted unless you move. Take a stroll around the block with your phone, or take it with you to run errands. A little fresh air will do you some good.
Location sharing is required for subscribers to the Zero Plan, as the anonymized data subscribers share helps to grow the Helium Network and improve coverage for cell phone users across the US. It is what enables us to keep the Zero Plan completely free and offer Cloud Point rewards to our subscribers.
If you wish to keep using your plan without sharing location, please upgrade to the Air or Infinity plans. You can do this in the Helium Mobile app.
